Daan Roosegaarde takes the main stage at Dubai Design Week 2018

A truly inspiring experience took place on Wednesday the 14th of November as part of Dubai Design week 2018, the region’s largest creative festival. Presented by Dutch Design Center (DDC), the renowned artist & innovator Daan Roosegaarde took the stage and guided the audience through a journey of beauty and cleanliness.

Roosegaarde’s keynote lecture ‘Landscapes of the Future’ highlighted innovative practices that merge people, technology and space in order to create a better world. The Dutch innovator talked about his numerous projects across the globe that are working towards benefiting humanity. These breakthrough projects such as the innovative smog-free tower, and the Van Gogh Bicycle path, are all driven by a need to make better conditions in cities “We are all makers, not consumers. We should be a part of the solution instead of the problem.” says Daan Roosegaarde.

He also shed light on his upcoming project ‘the Space Waste Lab’, a multi-phased project which tackles the more than 29,000 objects floating around the earth which Roosegaarde refers to as ‘the smog of our universe’. The keynote was followed by an interactive Q&A session with the audience.

At Skyne we feel privileged to be one of the founders of Dutch Design Center, enabling keynote lectures, collaborations and knowledge exchange. This was also emphasised by H.E. Mr. Hans Sandee, Consul-General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the UAE, in his opening speech during which he also highlighted the strategic partnership between the Dutch government and DDC.
